At Makers’ Mercantile® it had been dubbed the Big Mouth Bag™, as when you open it up, it opens wide and stays open. This makes it ideal for finding everything that may find its way into your bag. Plus, there are plenty of pockets inside, custom designed by you, so you can keep all the items you wish to have in there stored in an organised fashion. Whether this bag is used as a daily handbag, a knitting/crochet/sewing project bag or any other use you can think of, this bag is a delightful accessory to have!

There are many ways to sew a bag of this style, but these instructions have been designed to keep the measuring, cutting and sewing as simple as possible so even a beginning sewist can tackle it. If you are an established sewist, we encourage you to personalize your bag using your own advanced techniques and style. Makers’ Mercantile® offers three bag sizes: small, medium and large.

Our step by step instructions feature detailed photos of our small bag being assembled. Measurements for the finished bags and pattern pieces are given on the final page of this pattern. Since all pieces are relatively small and most sewists will want to use different fabrics for each of the pieces, measurements rather than yardage are provided.
