Learn to Knit Mosaic

In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how slipped stitches create bold and graphic patterns, and you’ll gain the skills to confidently read mosaic charts, choose high-contrast color combinations, and fix common mistakes along the way.

Your class fee includes everything you need to get started:

  • Printed Grid Gambit Cowl pattern by Samantha Guerin
  • Yarn in colors of your choice: 1 hank Madrona DK + 2 balls Edition 3 (or Starke 6 Bruder, if available)
  • US 7 / 24" Ewenicorn circular needle
  • Swatching materials for practicing the technique before starting your project

We’ll begin by exploring what makes mosaic knitting unique, review inspiring finished samples, and talk about different chart styles. You’ll experiment with color selection, learn how to check contrast and swatch in high-contrast shades to see your stitches come to life. We’ll also cover:

  • Reading and following mosaic charts or written instructions
  • Fixing common mistakes (and how to avoid them)
  • Managing yarns and carrying colors neatly up the sides
  • Creating built-in i-cord edges and a two-color i-cord bind-off

By the end of class, you’ll have started your Grid Gambit Cowl and have the confidence to finish it on your own — just in time for Valentine’s Day or your next seasonal color inspiration.
