Cuff-Down Socks with Makenzie Alvarez



In this comprehensive class, we'll dive into the world of cuff-down sock construction as we knit a charming toddler-sized sock together. You'll receive step-by-step guidance on every crucial technique, from the foundational cast-on to the satisfying grafted toe. We'll explore essential skills like increasing and decreasing for shaping, achieving the ideal fit, mastering short rows for heels, and seamless grafting. Get ready to transform yarn into cozy, custom socks, and gain the skills to confidently take on any sock pattern!

Prerequisites:
Comfortable knitting/purling flat and in the round, reading knitting instructions, picking up stitches, increasing and decreasing.

Materials to Bring:
-US1.5/2.5 mm needle or size needed to obtain gauge, either 4 (or 5) pairs of DPNs, or a 32”/80 cm (or longer) circular needle
-Fingering weight yarn approximately 80 yds (this will make one sock)
-Stitch markers (optional)
-Measuring tape

Homework:
Before you come to class gather your materials and be ready to cast on, swatch (in the round) your yarn you will need to meet a gauge of 32 sts x 48 rounds

Materials Included: 3 hours of instruction, a copy of the pattern, and a handout of sock fundamentals and resources.
Requirements: US1.5/2.5 mm needle or size needed to obtain gauge, either 4 (or 5) pairs of DPNs, or a 32”/80 cm (or longer) circular needle, Fingering weight yarn approximately 80 yds (this will make one sock), Stitch markers (optional), and Measuring tape.

Instructor Bio: Makenzie Alvarez (she/her), is a full-time knitwear designer (Hanks And Needles) in the Portland, Oregon area. I have a background in fine art and an admiration for architecture. I enjoy creating classic & engaging knitting patterns that are influenced by my love of the arts and the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
