Introduction to Brioche with Makenzie Alvarez



Take your brioche to the next step and further develop the your skills of brioche knitting. This class will dive into two color rib brioche with an increase, and learn the in and outs of knitting honeycomb brioche all while knitting Timekeepers Cowl. During class we will learn the rhythm of these techniques while learning how to read them in a written pattern. We will touch on all the steps needed to take brioche even further than these stitches and learn about ways to decrease to create the flowing motifs like the hourglass brioche at the end of the pattern. This class will build on your brioche knitting and prepare you for any brioche project. 

** You will receive a handout during class on all the brioche knitting terms covered in class and for continuing the pattern. This will include photo tutorials.

Prerequisites
Students must be comfortable knitting, purling, yarn overs, increasing/decreasing, reading knitting instructions. 

Homework
Before you come to class, gather your materials, work the first section of the pattern so we can jump into brioche in class.

Requirements: Materials - Timekeeper’s Cowl pattern by Makenzie Alvarez - US7/4.5 mm 24”/60 cm minimum circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge - Worsted weight yarn; Color A: 145 yds/133 m; Color B: 165 yds/151 m Sample Used: HiKoo; Highland Lux; 90% Andean Highland Wool, 10% Kid Mohair; 273 yds/250 m; 3.5 oz/100 g; 1 hank of Seafoam (A) and Charcoal (B) - 4 removable markers

Instructor Bio: Makenzie Alvarez (she/her), is a full-time knitwear designer (Hanks And Needles) in the Portland, Oregon area. I have a background in fine art and an admiration for architecture. I enjoy creating classic & engaging knitting patterns that are influenced by my love of the arts and the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
