My First Top-Down Socks - Online Workshop
Always wanted to make your own socks and did not know where to begin? Join us for this class and learn the basics of making socks top down. We will be talking about sock anatomy, grafting, and tips to avoid holes and tight cast on.
To concentrate on a sock itself, we will use Stockinette for a main stitch pattern. There will be two other stitch patterns for a cuff and a heel that are added for functionality of a sock. The lace stockings in the photo are from Faina's book, The Art of Seamless Knitting, and could be a future project for you once you learn the basics!
This class is offered in two parts:
Part 1. Anatomy of a sock, cuff, and a heel.
Part 2. Foot, toe portion and grafting.
Homework: Watch Faina's video on how to work with double-pointed needles and joining the round without a gap: https://tinyurl.com/DPN-round
With worsted-weight yarn and double-pointed US 7 or US 8 needles, cast on 48 sts on one of the needles.
Divide all sts between 4 needles, so each has 12 sts. Pm and join for working in the round, being careful not to twist the cast-on row.
Next rnd: *K1, p1; rep from * to end.
Repeat this rnd 7 more times.
Begin Stockinette. Knit all stitches on each rnd until sock measures 3” or desired length from cast on.
