Hand-Painted Yarn Workshop
In this hands-on workshop, we will explore the technique of hand painting yarns using tools that are easily acquired. We will learn about color theory, safety in the dye lab, and how to prepare fibers for the best results. After a demonstration, we will put our knowledge to the test as we apply dye to two hanks of our very own. Once the dye is set you’ll observe a demonstration of how to finish your freshly dyed yarn at home. At the end of our time together, you’ll head home with printed reference materials on what you just learned, as well as your still-warm, custom-colored yarn.
Ages 16 and up are invited to this workshop. No prior knowledge is necessary!

| Instructor: | Kyle Kunnecke |
| Instructor Bio: | Tacoma designer Kyle Kunnecke has a not-so-secret passion for colorwork. As General Manager of Makers' Mercantile, he brings that passion directly to the shop floor — and into the classroom. Through his fiber workshops, he provides inspiration to his students, exploring the skills necessary to continue their personal knitting journeys — online, at events around the country, and sometimes around the world. His patterns are published in books and magazines, by yarn companies, and under his label, Kyle William™. His book, Urban Knit Collection (Revised 2nd Edition, David & Charles, 2025) features 18 modern knitting patterns inspired by architecture and city life, including an expanded section on the locked floats technique for managing floats in stranded colorwork. Kyle believes creativity has the power to heal, and that when we share our stories through craft, the world becomes a better place. Learn more about Kyle and his work: www.kylewilliam.com. |
